Pastors Roosevelt & Shelia Williams
African Methodist Episcopal Church
Reverend Roosevelt Williams, III is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and a devoted servant of God with a heart for both ministry and teaching. He is married to Reverend Shelia D. Williams, his partner in life and ministry. Together they are blessed with a daughter, Dr. Christian Williams Harper, a son-love, Malcolm E. Harper, and a grandson, Malachi William Harper.
A graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts and Savannah College of Art & Design, Reverend Williams also received theological training at Birmingham Theological Seminary. He has pursued additional training in graphic design and emerging technologies, including certifications in Artificial Intelligence platforms (ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Claude).
He accepted his call to ministry in 1992 at St. John AME Church in Birmingham, Alabama, and entered the pastoral ministry in 1996. Since that time, God has used him to shepherd congregations in Florence, Birmingham, and now Montgomery, Alabama. Through Spirit-led leadership, churches under his care have experienced spiritual growth, numerical increase, strengthened ministries, and the successful retirement of significant debt including two church mortgages—to God be the glory. St. John’s AME Church in Montgomery has also expanded its outreach locally and internationally, including a second church in Bahawalpur, Pakistan.
Reverend Williams has served the AME Church in various leadership roles in church growth, Christian education, technology, and public relations. In addition to pastoring, he has led the Graphic Art Communications Program at Lawson State Community College (Bessemer Campus) since 2008, receiving the Technical Instructor of the Year Award in 2012 and 2024.
At heart, Reverend Williams is a teacher and shepherd—committed to proclaiming God’s Word with clarity, building strong ministries, and equipping others to grow in faith and purpose.
